Autonomous railcar air conditioner
The ABK-25 autonomous railcar air conditioner with heating, cooling and ventilation modes is retrofitted to upgrade heating and air conditioning systems in passenger railcars. It has two refrigeration units based on hermetically sealed compressors with air-cooled condensers. Air is heated by the electric heaters built into the air conditioner and the water air heaters. The air conditioning is controlled by the automated control system of the railcar. If the outside air temperature falls below minus 15 °C, only the electric air heaters are used for heating. The ABK-25 air conditioner uses ozone-friendly R410A refrigerant and is designed for temperatures from minus 40 to plus 45 °C. It is characterized by energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. Frequency converters in the ABK-25 can result in energy savings of up to 40%. Over 100 ABK-25 units have been manufactured in the last two years, ordered by Ukrzaliznytsia PJSC for retrofitting in passenger railcars.
New efficient cast resin transformer, Digital Transformation solutions and Cyber Secure communications platform
ABB will be presenting three world premieres: The first cast-resin main transformer RESIBLOC® Rail for rolling stock based on a further development of the proven RESIBLOC® technology. It offers a significant reduction of energy and maintenance costs of the drive system of rail vehicles. Another world premiere is ABB’s connected asset lifecycle management solution - ABB Ability™ Ellipse®, connecting assets in the field to the boardroom, providing high-resolution insight over transportation networks and operations for revolutionary efficiencies. Finally, ABB will present the new robust and highly-secure multiservice platform for mission-critical communications – XMC20, to pinpoint exact vehicle locations and to monitor the equipment keeping the network moving.
Redesign multimodal mobility systems more efficiently
IMPACT analyzes the effects of various measures in the transport sector on the mobility behaviour of humans, who usually act emotionally and not rationally. The willingness to change from the usual decision-making habits is examined on the basis of social milieus, using the newly developed SP-off-RP survey tool. This allows a much more realistic view of all factors that cause a change in the transport system – pricing, parking space management, shared mobility, new public transport lines, road construction and new technologies such as automated driving – than with conventional approaches. By means of simulation environments and models, realistic scenarios are developed. Thus, a sound basis for decision-making is created for the selection of suitable measures, which contribute to the optimization and increase in efficiency of the overall traffic system.

In keeping with the slogan "From the industry – for the industry", SchienenJobs.de (www.schienenjobs.de) fulfils all the functions of an online job market and information platform for jobs related to the railway. Over 120 companies from all over the railway industry look for suitable employees here. The offers range from traineeships to vacancies for IT experts, logistics professionals or commercial specialists. A particularly convenient feature for companies: All vacancies posted on SchienenJobs.de – currently about 7.000 – are advertised automatically in the jobs portal of the German Federal Labour Office. And the search for work is also made more convenient for applicants by about 400 regional landing pages; these only show the vacancies offered in the desired locations.
3D Wheel measurement system
The system is designed for contactless, automatic real-time measurement of rail vehicles and uses a combination of five laser scanners that are mounted in the track area and calibrated to a common system. As the wheel passes, the diameter, profile and distance between the wheels are measured and corresponding tolerances are given. The data is automatically transferred to the engineers via software. The sensors are self-cleaning and embedded in opening and closing boxes. The 3D wheel measurement system can be extended by additional functions, e.g. weight-in-motion function or the combination with hand-held devices. From the end of the year 2018, measurement at speeds of up to 350 km/h will be possible.
Enhanced UFHO system
The software manufacturer AMCON presents the enhanced UFHO system with new subscription management for transport companies. Due to the UFHO subscription module with web interface, customers, schools and companies don‘t need any special software to create and manage data, or to check and grant fare subsidies, because everything happens externally via the Internet. Customers can register online, select the desired ticket, enter the start, stop and the bank details. The respective authority or school receives information about a new ticket selection, can verify the data and make a decision on authorization and subsidy. All data enters the UFHO background system and is further processed there.
CoreVolt technology for data protection during temporary voltage instability
When temporary voltage instability occurs, Apacer’s proprietary CoreVolt technology with special hardware circuit design can prevent SSD’s operating voltage from being affected by input power changes on specific occasions and maintain stable operation without interrupting data transmission. The special hardware circuit design can monitor system voltage in real time. CoreVolt technology ensures the stability of SSD’s operating voltage when system voltage instability occurs, and stabilizes SSD’s data read/write operation to enhance data protection. NUMBERCheck digitizes transport data
ASE GmbH has developed an OCR gate in which trains and trucks are scanned with high-resolution video cameras as they pass through. Wagon, container and hazardous goods numbers, and much more are recorded fully automatically, processed in real time using an intelligent OCR algorithm and integrated into the end customers' operating systems via interfaces. Railway operators thus optimise their logistical processes. Wheel sensors in the track trigger the system and count the axes. An integrated microcontroller calculates the wagon separations and thus the number of wagons. Further, optical data are converted into alphanumeric characters, while plausibility checks ensure high recognition accuracy. All recorded characteristics are available in a database. NUMBERCheck is another milestone in the digitization of the logistics chain and a secure TAF TSI system.
Self-contained concrete plant on a single wagon
The quality of the concrete used in railway infrastructure is crucial. Its permanent availability in a tunnel or isolated tracks is extremely important. To meet these requirements, Ateliers d'Occitanie successfully delivered a 450m long concrete train with a capacity of 250 m3 per day for the Crossrail construction site in London. The company is currently developing new onboard concrete mixing plants: a concrete wagon with a capacity of 12 m3, a concrete trainset on two wagons with a capacity of 24 m3 and trains on several wagons with an capacity of 60 to 300 m3.

Embedded heat pipes greatly improve the thermal performance of heatsinks while keeping the same dimensions. It's an economical and smart alternative with regard to a change for another kind of cooler. No need to modify the implementation, the system remains a passive one and is cost effective.
Security in public transport with IP-Video
Security concepts in public transport are increasingly relying on video systems. They monitor places with high passenger traffic, such as public areas in stations and on platforms, as well as ticket and information counters, escalators and elevators – but also in buses, trains and subway cars. An important advantage of IP cameras is the analysis of real-time evaluations in the public transport sector. Proactive monitoring enables security forces to detect critical incidents more quickly, instead of having to watch hundreds of camera live feeds at once. Another advantage is that police and other authorities can access the video material as well. Cameras not only operate as surveillance instruments, but can also be used as sensors to initiate for example smoke and fire alarms. Axis Communications, the market leader in network video, will be presenting its solutions for buses, trains and subway cars at InnoTrans.
New Parvalux Motor
Hepworth Rail launch the new Parvalux Motor. Hepworth, the largest distributor of the motor, has been working closely to support Parvalux’s continuous improvement and re-design of the new L3P MKII wiper motor. Areas of improvement include: increased standard IP rating; re-designed gear wheel teeth to increase load capacity; reduced backlash/operating noise level; cooling fins; gearbox collar shortened reducing bearing load; reduction in LCC due to significant brush life increase; new finishing process enhancing robustness/protection of the motor, plus many more additional improvements made, enhancing performance and aiding manufacturing processes. The motor meets all the existing specifications with little change to size and weight.
Seating expertise for train drivers
The well-known driver’s seat manufacturer Be-Ge has further developed its service within the railway industry, a Competence Centre for Railway Seating applications is established at Be-Ge Savas Seating BV, located in Zaltbommel in the Netherlands. The driver’s seats are designed, manufactured and assembled at the Be-Ge production plant in Oskarshamn, Sweden. The experienced team at the Competence Center for Railway Seating at Be-Ge Savas Seating will serve customers both for refurbishment and service of rolling stock as well as for new projects. At InnoTrans Be-Ge will show their seating products, adapted to meet the standards for rail vehicles, fulfilling EN 45545 among other standards.
Rail milling and flaw inspection
The new YHD-G10 rail milling machine is capable of bringing badly worn rails quickly back into shape. The low-vibration, petrol engine operated machine is ergonomically designed. Compared to conventional methods of reworking rail surfaces and edges this system is more efficient and can mill up to 180 meters of rail per hour.
The new YHD-MT3 High-speed Railway Self-propelled Flaw Detection Car can detect left and right rails at the same time when running. The maximum flaw detection speed can be up to 15km/h. It is powered by a lithium battery with an adapted ultra-light weight aviation titanium alloy frame. It could be disassembled into 4 components with no more than 60 kg per component.
Platform edge with integrated noise protection function
Noise protection elements have been installed along the edge of the 220-metre-long platform at the stop in Töging am Inn as part of modernisation work of the Südostbayernbahn (Southeast Bavarian Railways). The platform edges absorb the noise directly at the source and the integrated wood concrete absorbers protect against unpleasant noise even in confined spaces. With structured surfaces and wave-like forms, wood concrete with a tested lifetime of more than 50 years is perfect for sound absorption. The solid concrete supporting trays have a high bulk density and therefore have very good sound absorption properties of up to 47 dB. The highly absorbent platform edge has been designed especially for use at railway stops and stations and, after the Vienna Central Train Station, has been used in Töging for the first time in Germany. The integrated absorber body reduces sound reflection in the train station area, for example when a train is approaching.
The monolithic drainage system
The new FILCOTEN® one is a monolithic channel, which means channel and grating are cast in one piece. Through this, the channel can be used in highly dynamic loads, for example railway crossings, airports, industrial spaces, asphalt surfaces and many more. The construction with the tongue and groove system enables an installation in either direction. Furthermore, the surface profile with S-Design guarantees a safe and easy drive over. Therefore our specifically developed and innovative material is used: The FILCOTEN® HPC (High Performance Concrete). FILCOTEN® HPC combines excellent properties with sustainability. It convinces with 100% recyclability, certified absence of harmful substances as well as a verified LCA (life cycle assessment). FILCOTEN® HPC preserves humans and nature.
A milestone in track construction: The Rolling Modular System
The Rolling Modular System is a milestone in the logistics of track construction: Patented innovations optimize the material flow and significantly improve productivity. At the same time, the modular structure and integrated operating concept of the train unit provide for a lean yet flexible vehicle fleet. Track construction commonly requires substantial investment in machinery. Even for smaller projects, at least two train units are used as a rule. The Rolling Molular System re-arranges the work processes: The capability of transporting bulk material and excavated earth in opposite directions means that the innovative machines can carry out three work steps in a single pass and with no passing siding. A second and third (ballasting) train unit is unnecessary, idle times are shortened. The core component of the modular system is the E-MT 100 material transport wagon, which can transport up to three materials in any direction simultaneously. One of the most important extension tools is the BE 8-16 loading and unloading wagon.
Tubular luminaire equipped with LED tubes
Tubular luminaires have proven effective for widely varying requirements. Using LED tubes with particular characteristics allows consistent adjustment to the respective purpose, especially regarding the requirement profile of the DB (German Railways). In this way, different fields of application can be covered by a single system solution. Thus, the illuminant which is the LED tube within the protective tubular luminaire makes the difference: simply exchanging or replacing one generation of LED tubes with another more effective generation of LED tubes. Tubular luminaire system: Diameter 70 mm of shock-resistant PMMA (alternatively high-impact resistant PC); end caps of aluminium; pipe clamps of high-grade steel (V2A); vibration resistant tube accommodation; degree of protection IP 67 (on request IP 69K); impact resistance IK 07, IK 10; illuminant (T8) LED tube 600 mm, 1200 mm, 1500 mm; power consumption approx. 12 W, 20 W, 28 W. The LED tubular luminaire Ex is currently being certified and will be available shortly.
Tunnel cleaning machines with high efficiency
The family business Brügger HTB is specialized in the efficient cleaning of the railway infrastructure and is managed by three brothers. In the area of tunnel cleaning (dry cleaning), extraction systems for banquets, rail beds and vaults were developed for the 34.6 km long Lötschberg base tunnel (Frutigen - Raron, 1 tube). In the meantime, regular cleaning work in the Lötschberg as well as in the 57 km long Gotthard Base Tunnel (Erstfeld - Bodio, 2 tubes) has become one of the company's tasks. Brügger is the market leader in dry cleaning of railway tunnels. This is why special cleaning in railway tunnels and open railway lines for the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and the Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon railway (BLS) are regular tasks. For the reliable cleaning of heavy wheelsets, the PacificTA large parts system is equipped with crucial technical details. The pit installation allows it to be directly linked to a local floorloader system. A special nozzle system provides even water application to the components so that reliable cleanliness is ensured even in difficult-to-reach locations of the heavy wheelsets. Catenary geometrical parameter detection in rail transit systems
The Dr.S catenary system detector, presented by CENTURAY Technology, is a high-tech appliance in rail transit systems, using a hand pushed trolley as a carrier to perform the non-contact, continuous and dynamic test of geometrical parameters, wear and mast gauge of the catenary system. Dr.S is the integrated intelligent product of mechanical engineering, electronics and computer science. It is composed of a H-type measuring trolley platform, high-speed industrial linear array camera, linear laser generator and data acquisition processor. With automatic online analysis, display and advance warning of the test information or subsequent analysis replay of test data, Dr.S provides scientific guidance for maintenance work on electrified railway catenary systems.
First self-controlled safety critical relays to guarantee opening of their NO contacts at SIL4 level
The six safety critical relays developed by CLEARSY France are the first self-controlled safety critical relays to guarantee opening of their NO contacts at SIL4 level. SIL4-certified, they are in compliance with the EN 50129 and EN 50155 standards. RS4-range relays are available from 24 to 110 Volts. Models have 2 to 4 make contacts (NO) and 2 to 6 break contacts (NC). Available in two formats, a DIN rail box or a 3U card, these relays provide galvanic isolation between control and contacts. The relays are designed for even the harshest environments (-40° C to +70° C) with high vibrations and/or shocks and salt spray. They are fit for all conditions. The RS4 range constitutes significant technological progress for on-board and/or trackside critical control applications. RS4 is able to make contacts even with very low current, for all applications requiring an interface with PLC.
Real-time passenger information services in the vehicle
Keeping passengers up-to-date at all times about punctuality and connections is a key success factor for transport companies. CN-Consult is setting new benchmarks with its hardware-independent DiLoc®|OnBoard software: vehicles are supplied with data in real-time from a central system such as DiLoc|Motion or third party systems via the open Mobile Passenger Information interface developed in-house. The adapter concept created for this purpose integrates both existing and innovative hardware with current network standards. This guarantees requisite security of investment despite increasing complexity of mobile passenger information systems and the fact that lifecycles of hardware components are becoming shorter. DiLoc|Sync software currently supplies over 18,000 drivers throughout Europe electronically. Wooden sleepers with long useful life

Leading the RESILTRACK project
Within the framework of the strategic National Consortia of Business Research programme (CIEN in Spanish), COMSA leads the RESILTRACK project, that aims to build a comprehensive monitoring system of the railway infrastructure to assess and prevent the negative impacts caused by adverse weather conditions in real time. RESILTRACK represents a new maintenance strategy, switching from a corrective approach to a more sustainable preventive methodology through a predictive simulation with DEM-FEM models, together with BIM (Building Information Modelling) tools. The project, which is in its initial phase, is expected to last four years and an overall investment has been made of nearly 6 million euros.
Heat exchange solutions for diesel engines
Cooling Systems Plant LLC, based in Belarus, specializes in design and manufacture of copper-brass radiators for cooling different types of coolant fluids (oil, water, antifreeze) used in high-power internal combustion engines (up to 5000 kW). The Company is exhibiting at InnoTrans for the first time with its latest range of high performance cooling systems of diesel engine of railway machinery such as main-line and shunting locomotives. One of the Company’s brand new products is mechanically bonded radiator. Bolt-on radiator does not have soldered joints and tube expander that provides a high degree of serviceability. The combination of technologies and high quality materials makes it possible to create an optimal radiator design for operation in heavy-duty conditions. The main advantages of cooling systems are exceptional reliability, high corrosion resistance, long service life and ease of maintenance.
SuperFlex: Flexible aluminium honeycombs
By adjusting elements of Corex Honeycomb´s production process, the cell geometry has been adapted so that the aluminium honeycomb can be formed into 3D shapes. The resulting benefit of this cell configuration is that the flexible honeycomb retains its cell shape and therefore its strength, making it ideal for use in curved, spherical, cylindrical and organic shapes. SuperFlex flexible honeycomb can be used for a wide range of applications, including train interior panels and partitions, furniture and galleys, architectural structures, boat hulls, car and caravan body panels and sports helmets. As with our standard aluminium honeycomb, the product also adds strength whilst reducing the weight. SuperFlex is part of the Corex Honeycomb aluminium range, which is also available through the on-line ordering service, Corex Express. This enables customers to order from the off-the-shelf unexpanded range of the most popular sizes and thicknesses, without a manufacturing delay or minimum order value.

CPC Tracking premieres its safety and tracking system for railway construction and transport at InnoTrans. High-quality embedded and ruggedized controllers measure a wide range of data from rolling stock equipment in real time and present these for management. The system has proven its value on large railway construction projects and leading goods transport companies, supporting management in monitoring both own equipment and equipment from sub-suppliers. Constant focus on improving safety and optimizing cost is the driver for CPC Tracking in close cooperation with the customers, to continue supporting project management in making decisions based on reliable data.
Technology for Smart Wheel Reprofiling
The company will present its technological development for intelligent wheel machining at the upcoming InnoTrans fair. The technology developed by DANOBAT reduces cycle time, increases the process reliability and safety and extends the life of the wheels within railway fleets. The stand will also be dedicated to explain DANOBAT's comprehensive solutions to all manufacturing processes of rolling stock parts. In addition, the company will avail of this opportunity to share its digital value proposition composed of in-house, technological developments based on industry 4.0. The aim is to advance in the creation of intelligent manufacturing spaces, fitted with interconnected equipment and capable of autonomous operations.
Tram tracks are a problem for cyclists. In order to reduce the risk of accidents, Datwyler has developed a velosafe track, which prevents wheel seizing in the rail groove. Pedestrians also benefit from it as it is less likely to twist an ankle. Datwyler achieves this by screwing a safety profile into the rail groove. A track guiding plate restricts the sine curve of the track wheel and thereby increases the lifetime of the rubber profile. The entire construction can be removed at any time and without much work, for example to perform rail work. The groove has a draining channel in order to completely rinse it, so dust and dirt do not build up in the groove. With the newly developed RAILRESTORE, Datwyler is presenting another innovation. With this, one can eliminate rail breaks in shortest possible time at highest level.
Seamlessly connected with Colibri
At InnoTrans 2016, DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung unveiled its new product series Colibri (Coach Link for Broadband Information exchange). The solution includes IT products and services, such as real-time vehicle location and diagnosis, automatic passenger counting and Wi-Fi offerings. InnoTrans 2018 is dedicated to the latest generation of passenger information and innovative methods for safety systems, diagnosis and effective vehicle upgrades. At the heart of the new concept is the seamless connectivity between train, station and subsequent connections of local public transportation.
Green functions app and ordering portal for train path requests
The "Green functions of train movement control" app from DB Netz AG provides train drivers on their tablets or cell phones with messages that help them adopt a capacity-neutral, energy-saving and anticipatory driving style. The train movement control messages are sent from the DB Netz operations centers via an interface to DB Systel. From there the processed travel movement control message is sent directly via push to the locomotive tablet or cell phone with Android operating system. Click&Ride is the DB Netz AG ordering portal for train path requests in ad-hoc rail freight transport in less than three minutes. Click&Ride enables railway undertakings involved in rail freight transport to create train path requests for typical ad-hoc traffic in no time at all and to receive offers in less than three minutes. From these offers the customer can then register a binding train path on a computer, tablet or smartphone.
Customer experience for regional transportation of the future
At InnoTrans 2018, international trade visitors will have the special opportunity to experience a worldwide unique customer experience for regional transportation of the future: the train of ideas. DB Regio is exclusively presenting in cooperation with Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft the walk-in 1:1 model of the double-deck car on Berlin ExpoCenter City. 22 visionary interior landscapes, which were developed and tested jointly with passengers and numerous partners, can be experienced live at the trade fair. The topics covered range from work through sport and relaxing, from gaming and shopping through to the kids' playground. Everything with the aim of structuring local transportation of the future and taking into account all areas of life, so that customers can no longer imagine a world without the train.
Digital twins and Acoustic Infrastructure Monitoring
DB Systel, Deutsche Bahn's digital partner, is showcasing at InnoTrans how objects, such as points, rails or locomotives, can be networked with each other in the internet of things via a digital twin. To this end, DB Systel has developed the DB IoT Cloud, which provides dynamic, digital software representation. The current behavior of the objects is mapped almost in real time in the application using sensors. AIM (Acoustic Infrastructure Monitoring) is a universal predictive maintenance solution from DB Systel that detects early on faults with mechanical equipment, such as escalators or elevators, on the basis of acoustic signals. Using AI, vsion.ai automatically analyzes and assesses images and videos to provide information for decision-making processes, such as detecting snow at stations to dispatch staff automatically, or identifying hazardous situations on the railroad.
Flexible laboratory test rig for testing air conditioning systems
DB Systemtechnik GmbH, the Deutsche Bahn engineering and testing service provider, has developed LUDEK, a flexible laboratory test rig for testing and developing air-conditioning systems. At the InnoTrans 2018, the company will present the model of the new test rig. LUDEK supplies all the temperature ranges necessary for checking the cooling function of an air conditioning system, up to an outside temperature of 45 degrees Celsius. The test technology is integrated into a mobile 40-foot sea container – which is about 12 meters long and about 2.40 meters wide. Thus, if required, the laboratory test stand can also be used directly by customers.
Different types of industrial and electronic connectors
DEGSON offers different types of industrial and electronic connectors including terminal blocks, heavy-duty connectors, circular connectors, EV chargers etc. The terminal blocks have been tested and approved in the company´s own UL and VDE lab. All parts are compatible with Phoenix Contact, Wago and Weidmueller. Due to strong partnerships in local markets, Degson’s products are now distributed in more than 80 countries and 160 areas with a good reputation for fine quality.

Use of non-contact laser measurement technology
Additional to the world-wide used RPM with Datalogger, the exhibitor has now launched the wireless, mobile wheel profile measuring device RPM BT with Bluetooth and Toughpad for metrological recording of the wheel profile on a stationary vehicle. The use of non-contact laser measurement technology guarantees a high resolution and accuracy when measuring the entire wheel profile. It is easy to fix the measuring device to the reference surface of the wheel to be measured by using permanent magnets, it is possible to measure wheels with any wheel diameters and widths. With the aid of the measuring software all necessary measurements for a qualitative wear assessment of the wheel (for example flange thickness, flange height, transverse dimension, wheel width and wheel diameter) are determined and displayed. The wheel profile measuring device was developed especially considering the space available when using low-floor vehicles.

The new capacitive sensor door handle is ideally suited for the electronic unlocking of doors in transportation applications thanks to its intuitive ease of use and robust design. When a hand comes near or in contact with the active surface, the electronic unlocking mechanism is activated and the door can be opened. CDR series: Changeover disconnector / earthing switch
The CDR series can be used in a wide range of applications: as changeover switches, earthing switches, disconnectors, security system isolators. In rolling stock, CDR series components are used to perform series/parallel switching between the winding of drive motors, brake resistors and earthing switches. They are constituted by a body of compact modular structure and enable various solutions with optimal functioning even for high short-circuit currents. They can be enclosed in a metal case and mounted externally on the roof or under the coach floor: they work reliably in any installation position. They can be of four different types: manual or motorized, or with direct or independent torque movement. Upon request the system can be supplied with interlocking keys. ELERON has filed a patent application for CDR.

3-in-1: the Rectiverter
The Eltek Rectiverter is a completely new concept in power conversion. It combines the functionality of a rectifier, an inverter and a static transferswitch in only one bidirectional power module. The concept is very simple: 3 appliances in 1 module. The Rectiverter has three ports - AC input, AC output and one bidirectional DC port for both input and output. During normal operation, the Rectiverter provides both AC and DC power with a total load of up to 2000W per module. The AC input is rectified, then fed to a built-in inverter for AC output. The rectified AC input is fed to a DC/DC converter for appropriate DC load output, and to batteries for charging. In case of AC (mains) failure, the DC flow is reversed from the batteries to feed the inverter for conversion to AC, and to take over the DC load. The transition from AC to DC feed is instantaneous and with no load disturbance!

FAIRTIQ is "public transport made easy". No more hassle to get the right ticket at the vending machine or in the app. With the FAIRTIQ app this is done automatically with just one click. Thanks to "Check-in/Assisted Check-out technology", the journey is recorded by geolocation with a tap on "Start". A second tap after the trip ends the journey and the optimal ticket will be charged. An automatic reminder minimizes forgotten check outs. Since the launch in april 2016 together with three transport companies, new partners have been constantly added. FAIRTIQ now has 21 partners in Switzerland, including Swiss Federal Railways, and can be used throughout Switzerland for all public transport. The use could be quintupled within a year. On the basis of high scalability, FAIRTIQ strives for an extensive international coverage. Contracts have already been signed in DE, AT and NL.

Across frame connectors
Fluid Controls´ Across Frame Connectors are custom-designed double ferrule combination fittings with a bulkhead application at one end and a swivelling action at the other. They are used to connect pipelines separated by a panel, such as connections between the shell and bogie. The swivelling action ensures that these connectors can be installed at any orientation, and the bulkhead connection allows the height of fittings to be adjusted to the tubing. Across Frame Connectors can also be used to join tubing of different material and the use of washers ensures vibration resistant joints. Across Frame Connectors offer easy installation and eliminate welding processes. End connections of these connectors are tested and validated to ASTM F1387 standards.
3D obstacle detection systems
The systems are designed to detect obstacles and monitor dangerous areas such as level crossings, station platforms, tunnels, bridges, viaducts, places under the road overpasses etc. They can detect dangerous situations such as cars or people who are stuck on the level crossing, passengers who have fallen from the station platform to the track, lost load and other objects that have fallen from overpasses, landslides, avalanches, mud, rocks, trees and other dangerous obstacles. The devices operate in all lighting conditions (day, night, direct sunlight) and in the most severe weather conditions. Obstacles can be detected reliably regardless of the type of material.
Airborne Profiler, Clearance Profile Scanner and Framework for 3D-Data Interpretation
The Lightweight Airborne Profiler LAP was developed by Fraunhofer IPM for application on airborne platforms. Local orientation of the LAP is based on a combination of IMU (inertial measurement unit) and GNSS (global navigation satellite system). The system is especially appropriated for shaded and complex structures. The CPS sensor is mounted at the inspection car's front. A rotating mirror projects a high frequency modulated laser beam on the surroundings and deflects the returning light for deflection and analysis. The CPS is based on phase shift measurement for determining the distance. Based on the CPS the railway and the surrounding can be monitored. Today, infrastructure is surveyed using cameras or laser scanners. The acquired data is generally evaluated manually. Fraunhofer IPM has developed a “Deep Learning Framework” which automates this process.

Checking out residual stresses on freight car wheels
Fraunhofer IZFP engineers will present the optimized generation of an ultrasonic inspection system at InnoTrans. Damage to freight car wheels can be detected early and wheel breakage in critical situations can be prevented. By optimizing the hardware, experts have succeeded in adapting the so-called UER inspection systems even better to the specific needs of the maintenance and manufacturer facilities for wheels. Test personnel can now run the inspection software directly on the manipulator via touchscreen, combining easy operation with the inspection speed and accuracy of the known systems. All new systems, as well as all systems already delivered, are integrated in Fraunhofer IZFP's remote maintenance network.

RECOSPRAY railway weed control
The sustainable RECOSPRAY system sprays only where weeds are detected through the use of weed mapping technologies. Herbicides are therefore used to their maximum effect with no wastage created. The amount of emitted chemicals adapts to the working speed. Using GPS data, the system automatically stops in sensitive areas ensuring no chemical is sprayed. RECOSPRAY offers high level, flexible and accurate reporting functions for monitoring purposes. By using GIS solutions, the system effectively monitors the sensitive sites, and also provides accurate automatic interactions and reporting information. The RECOSPRAY railway weed control system has been developed by G&G Ltd, Hungary, and is used by Weedfree On Track Ltd. in several European countries.

SensorSafe Rail Range
GKD will be showing the newly upgraded 3RCi+ system - the latest version of the world’s most popular retrofit RCI for road rail applications. Slew limits, virtual walls and height limits are included, featuring selective intelligent hydraulic motion cut of any boom or slew function at limit to prevent movement further into danger. The 3RCi+ also features a touchscreen display inside the cab where the operator can see the details about the machine. Also new is the additional SpaceGuard feature for the 3RCi+ which has dual sensing for extra accuracy and protects against system sensor malfunction, inconsistencies and electronic failures. WELDYX MASTER – New high-performance adhesive in certified quality
Under the motto "Maximum safety - high-performance adhesives in certified quality", GLUETEC will be presenting the latest generation of structural adhesives. WELDYX MASTER has been developed specifically to meet the requirements of railway applications, is compatible with all common substrates of the railway industry and even fulfills the guidelines for rail vehicles with high risk category (DIN EN 45545-2, R1 HL3). With WELDYX MASTER, structural, high-strength and at the same time flexible and highly resistant bonds are possible. The 2-component methyl methacrylate adhesive in a mixing ratio of 10:1 is available in processing times of 5 and 15 minutes. WELDYX MASTER is a high-performance adhesive developed for structural bonding of metals, composites and plastics. Compared to others, WELDYX MASTER scores with even lower shrinkage behaviour and longer reaction time. These properties were also confirmed in a product analysis by the Fraunhofer LBF Institute.
Shunting locomotive with electric power transmission and flexible energy supply
For the first time, GMEINDER LOKOMOTIVEN will be exhibiting with the model DE75 Bo´Bo´ a 4-axle shunting locomotive with diesel-electric drive for the heavy shunting service. The electric power transmission, using four independently controlled traction motors, realizes an optimum friction coefficient utilization, and at the same time the use of different energy sources. Due to the symmetric composition of the locomotive, two independent energy sources are installed, e.g. two Diesel Gensets (Dual Engine), or one Diesel Genset and a Lithium-Ion Traction Battery (Hybrid). Even the energy supply via Third Rail (DC 750 V) or Catenary is possible. Consequently, the symmetric composition of the locomotive is continued with the Power Electronics. Two independent subsystems are the guarantee for highest availability.

The 3-axle bogie type 3ALs1o-K(V) is designed to equip heavy freight wagons with a maximum weight of 25t/axle. It is constructed in accordance with UIC and EN requirements. The weight is ca 7,6 tons. The bogie consists of 3 wheelsets with a diameter of 920 mm, a welded bogie frame, suspension with progresive leaf springs, fixed side bearings and a clasp brake using composite blocks 2xBg. If required the bogie can be equipped with a weighing valve.

Front working platform with 3-in-1 chassis
A multi-purpose front working platform with innovative chassis for multifunctional use from GÜNZBURGER STEIGTECHNIK increases safety and efficiency at work, while replacing wind screens, repairing screen wipers and servicing the headlight. The front working platform is built on a stable chassis with polyamide swivel castors (Ø 200x80) and can be used and moved anywhere on all flat surfaces. It can also operate on tracks and elevated tracks. The heart of the system is the ingenious 3-in-1 chassis solution with a telescopic tube system and outriggers that are lowered by spindle jacks. The platform is 3260 mm wide with a work surface of about 4 sq.m. it can be raised, lowered and adjusted with a cable winch. Access is via a vertical ladder.
TPS Online for effective short-term traffic management
The new TPS Online and the integration of DRT services will be presented for the first time on InnoTrans. TPS Online has been specifically developed for ad-hoc disposition that controls and optimizes everyday rail operations. Short-term disruptions can be processed in real time, e.g. delays, broken shunting points or signaling systems. TPS Online detects conflicts that have an impact on the entire railway network and offers automatic, semi-automatic and manual conflict resolutions. As a result, dispatchers can immediately react to the respective disturbances, for example by advising trains to wait for each other, by redirecting them or by scheduling a change of track. In addition, the HaCon team will be presenting the latest in HAFAS trip planning, such as the integration of DRT services, the first HaCon Kids App “VBB jump,” current MaaS projects and enhancements to the web-based vehicle management system HAFAS Smart VMS.
A self-locking solution in extreme environments
A nut-and-bolt joint tend to loosen by rotating when exposed to external vibrations and impacts, which causes a drop in the initial clamp load and often leads to an accident. Noise reduction made easy
The Automatic Train Monitoring System (ATM) is used for acoustic and visual recording of noise emissions. The monitoring and recording system can be used wherever a frequency-dependent decibel measurement is needed for noise reduction. The optionally available camera is activated by movement. The collected data is read out, evaluated and displayed graphically by a software program. The sounds captured are assigned by the images which are recorded synchronously. The effectiveness of the set noise reduction action is proved in a before/after comparison. The ATM can be combined with HY-Power rail lubrication systems.
Autonomous track inspection trolley
Track maintenance is underpinned by non-destructive inspection, using inspection trains for fast track survey, followed by manual inspections in suspect areas. I-moss has developed within the EC research project “AutoScan” an autonomously operating measurement trolley. The self-powered inspection cart can carry various inspection systems. It uses a brushless DC motor with energy recuperation and a GPS-based routing engine to execute preprogrammed inspection routes. Safety is ensured by real-time camera supervision, ultrasonic object detection and front and tail lights. The cart has been applied for the detection of rolling contact fatigue faults via electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs) and for robotic ACFM inspection. A collaborative robot allows for detailed rail head inspection from any desired viewing angle. The cart has also been demonstrated for rail roughness measurement.

New electronically controlled seat for train drivers
ISRI and SKA seating specialists are working together on new generation of train driver seats, which has been optimally tailored to the wishes of rail vehicle operators. The developers based their orientation on the "Driver Seat Policy Document" of the GDL professional trade union. Particularly noteworthy is the partially electronic operation of seat adjustment functions as well as the ergonomics of seat and backrest cushions, which have been designed in accordance with the ergonomic aspects specified in the ISO TSI LOC & PAS. An integrated compressor allows the seat 7560KA/885 NTS2 to be used in rail-mounted vehicles that do not have their own compressed air supply.
Streamlined software for mobile ticketing
IVU is to display the new ticket.app for mobile ticketing at InnoTrans 2018, which is developed in cooperation with the London-based technology start-up UrbanThings. The streamlined software comes complete with a connection search tool and generates VDV-KA-compliant barcode tickets for bus and rail travel. Users can easily log in via their existing Facebook or Google accounts and store their payment method directly in the app for fast ticket purchasing. The app will communicate with Bluetooth beacons to track journeys and manage fare collection. This way, the system facilitates an easy and low-cost ‘Be-in/Be-Out’ solution, which means that passengers can board vehicles while keeping their phones in their pockets. When used with the settlement software IVU.fare, extensive evaluation functions are available to transport operators.
New turnouts for center guided vehicles
In the last decade, urban transport vehicles have been introduced in Europe with hybrid characteristics between a tram and a bus. The system consists of vehicles with pneumatic wheels guided through a central rail, and a metallic wheel system that clamps it. These central guidance systems need track devices, such as turnouts and diamond crossings. JEZ has developed turnouts and diamond crossings for this type of transport systems, integrating in them a switching engine, position detection and heating. The solution developed by JEZ consists of a rotary panel with main and branch rails, preferably made of Mn steel, Cam mechanisms at the entrance and exit of switches, with integrated locking system of the end positions and integration of the switching unit, locking and detection of the electrohydraulic engine UNISTAR HR inside the turnout or the diamond crossing.
Rubber-metal components with patented fire protection system
Rubber-metal mounts are widely used in railway applications, especially in the bogie. Regarding fire protection, strict regulations apply here (DIN EN 45545). The world premiered solution provides fire protection of the rubber body through heat shielding. The type of protection has no adverse effect on the mechanical properties of the components, it can be used with all rubber compounds. The shielding principle of Jörn is based on materials that expand in heat and so multiply their volume. Existing free spaces, such as free spring travel closed and the component encased thereby, mechanical properties are largely retained. Compared to other solutions there is no mechanical restriction of the rubber components; existing systems can also be retrofitted.
Proven JUMO measurement technology points the way ahead
JUMO meets the stringent requirements governing rail vehicles with an extensive portfolio of sensors and measurement transducers. For example, the thermostats used for climate monitoring are certified to DIN EN 50155, DIN EN 50121 and DIN EN 45545 and have a very long service life of about ten years (in normal operation). The various resistance thermometer models are also designed to withstand the harsh environmental conditions including in wheelset transmissions or axle bearings and can operate in temperature ranges from -50 to +260 °C. For pressure and level monitoring applications, JUMO also offers transmitters for monitoring the pressure in brake circuits or levels in wastewater tanks, for example. Here, measurements cover ranges from 0 to 40 mbar and from 0 to 16 bar differential pressure.

ecoMOTO EV charging stations
The ecoMOTO is a device for charging electric cars and e-bikes. The device is ergonomically designed with high resistance to bad weather and vandalism. This device is simple and intuitive to use, equipped with a 7" touchscreen, by which the owner of the electric vehicle chooses the charging position and the amount of electricity. Payment for electricity is made using a contactless bank card or MiFare reader. The charging session and the printout of the payment confirmation are made after the charge has been accepted and credited to the account of the energy provider. Unused payment for energy from a particular charging session may be used for charging at a later date. The ecoMOTO charging station is equipped with standard type 2 three-phase jacks (2 x 22 kW AC). Wall mounting is also available.

Sub ballast mat: Soft spring is a constant in vibration isolation
At InnoTrans 2018, KRAIBURG Purasys GmbH & Co. KG will present the newly developed sub ballast mat SBM PN 22-0.02 (25mm incl. fleece lamination) made of closed-cell material with low dynamic stiffness. The dynamic bedding modulus is only slightly higher than the static bedding modulus of 0.02 N/mm³. It is fully tested according to DIN 45673-5 and further reduces vibration and shock emissions. The sub ballast mat is supplied with the new SBM hook-and-loop-system which further simplifies laying and bonding of two mats. It can be used for underground, tram and mainline railways with axle loads up to 16t and speeds up to 120 km/h.
Working platforms for trains, as individual as each customer
When the project managers of Bodensee Railway asked for a stationary working platform roof for trains, it was clear an individual solution was required. No problem for the access technology experts from KRAUSE. Once the requirements had been defined, they designed an electrically adjustable roof working platform on both sides, which can be driven directly up to the train, thus reducing service life. Both electronic ramming protection on the train side and interrogation sensors were integrated. They measure whether the train is in the right place and whether the security door is closed. The train driver always receives the current status of the train via light signals. Maintenance and repairs can thus always be carried out safely and efficiently.
New cylindrical roller bearing cage design for high performance railway gearboxes
Kugel- und Rollenlagerwerk Leipzig GmbH (KRW) presents the new MPEA cage design for cylindrical roller bearings at InnoTrans this year. The design was tested for its potential using a design-accompanying finite element analysis and a practical test at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. All results clearly show the increased performance. Many European gear manufacturers already trust the MPEA design and equip their products with KRW cylindrical roller bearings.
Hybrid Polymer Sleepers for city and industry
KLP® Hybrid Polymer Sleepers offer beneficial damping properties as well as optimum stiffness that mean improvements in track during its long expected lifetime of 50 years. Leather-like look combined with excellent cleaning properties
Lantal's new, innovative TEC-Leather not only has a noble and leather-like look, but also offers many advantages over conventional leather and artificial leather products and thus meets several customer needs at once. The unique cleaning properties of the material are particularly remarkable. The surface of TEC-Leather is highly dirt-repellent, which reduces the cleaning effort. Ballpoint marks and dirt residues can be easily wiped off with a moist cloth. The supple material has already been used by several railway companies and retained its excellent appearance even after months of use. TEC-Leather does not cause skin irritation, has very good thermal properties and is resistant to fungal attack. In addition, the high elasticity of the material makes it easy to assemble, even with complex seat shapes. The Lantal product does not require an additional fireblocker, which leads to cost savings.
New light in public transport
Lighting in trains should be sustainable, efficient and maintenance-free, and it must also be able to handle heavy loads. LCC (Laser Crystal Ceramics) produces special illuminants - with over 50% more efficiency compared to previous FL lighting systems. The requirements for railway lamps are great. Amongst others, LCC has produced for the largest private railway company in Switzerland special lighting in special dimensions and types. The existing light sources as well as the control of the interior lighting remained unchanged. The new chip generation thus solves some specific difficulties of the railway industry – efficient, environmentally friendly and no-holds-barred. LCC has its origins in Switzerland and South Korea. It differs fundamentally from LED through the organic coating and saves resources and CO2.
More compact voltage measurement
DVC 1000-P measures a nominal voltage of 1000 VRMS with insulation. DVC 1000-P is really compact, measuring only 37 x 43 x 23.5 mm & can be mounted on a printed board for a total volume of only 37.4 cm3 offering significant space savings. LEM developed the DVC 1000-P to be fully compliant with the International Railway Industry Standards (IRIS), providing engineers in the railway industry, who are working with both rolling stock and sub-stations, with a versatile new transducer. It delivers a great overall accuracy, of +/- 1 % at +25°C with a high stability in temperature leading an overall accuracy of +/- 1.5 % from -40°C to +85°C as operating temperature range. The model weighs only 22 g, more than 60% lighter than transducers already in the market for similar voltage range. It also exhibits a fast response time of 10 µs at 90% of nominal voltage.

Rail-borne work vehicles
Maschinenbau und Service GmbH offers comprehensive development, production and service expertise for tomorrow‘s vehicles and production systems. The latest products from MSG mbH – Railcar Construction Ammendorf – are rail-borne work vehicles for maintaining the Munich Underground railway network. They have been developed and manufactured by MSG specifically for this purpose. Two of these flatbed cars will be presented for the first time on the rail yard at InnoTrans 2018. Stadtwerke München ordered three flatbed railcar variants: 14 m and 21 m (extra-long) 4-axle vehicles with a loading height of 1100 mm above rail top edge, and 10 m long, 2-axle special flat cars with a loading height of 810 mm above rail top edge. The cars are equipped with: coupling point, control/command/signalling, front and rear lights, load-dependent graduated brake, bogies with disk brakes, shunter‘s stand usable on both sides, category C-II obstacle deflector and load indicator (overloading not possible).
Receptacle combinations for driving through tunnels safely at full speed
In many ways tunnel systems are a particular technical challenge. For example, high demands are placed on receptacle combinations in railway tunnels. Kipp Umwelttechnik GmbH, sister company of mycon, has now developed another process for cleaning even viscous grease layers: SpeedMaster. The process works just as gently as the JetMaster system. SpeedMaster can be used to clean bogies in the railway sector, the inside of tanks, but also to clean pipes, bars and profiles. The cleaning agent is completely recyclable. The release of the new process for all applications is scheduled for September 2018.
Carbofol® in railway constructions
Geosynthetics are used in railway construction predominantly in the field of earthworks. Since November 2015 there is a new guideline “Technical requirements for geosynthetics in railway constructions (DBS 918 039)”, published by DB Netz AG. Within this new DBS 918 039 several geosynthetic applications and the corresponding technical requirements are defined. Besides the conventional applications there are also new applications like groundwater protection where geosynthetics are used. Geomembranes like Carbofol® work as a sealing underneath the railway track to protect groundwater e. g. in water protection areas.
Auto Jog for automatic train alignment
The Auto Jog is used to perform automatic train alignment when a train fails to stop within the stopping tolerance limits after entering a platform. When a train fails to stop at the precise stopping point (±0.65 m) but is located within the Jog Area (±3.125 m), the train performs the Auto Jog to obtain the automatic train alignment of the passenger doors. It is also possible to control the automatic passenger doors manually from the OCC by means of OD/CD commands even if the Auto Jog fails. Vakmobile: The portable track cleaning unit
NEU Railways has released the portable version of its Vacuum Cleaning Train VAKTRAK: the VAKMOBILE. It is a completely self-powered & portable vacuum cleaning unit, dedicated to railway station track bed trash collection. Thanks to its non-conductive suction wand, it improves both the quality and the speed of track bed cleaning within stations compared to traditional manual cleaning. It is compact enough to be transported between stations by the cleaning crew, using the railcars. Wireless measurement value acquisition for condition monitoring
Measuring points on moveable parts (e. g. windings of a rotor in an electric motor) cannot be accessed with wired sensors. For such requirements, NORIS developed a robust and reliable solution that is based on proven technologies and provides a sensor on a moving part with energy and transmits the measurement data wirelessly via RFID to a receiver: NORIFID. The sensor system NORIFID consists of a reader that is mounted on a fixed part and a transponder with integrated measurement element that is mounted on the moving part. This measuring element can be a fixed integral part of the transponder or, if necessary, placed outside at the measuring site and wired to the transponder. Thus, NORIFID can be easily adapted for different applications.
New modular outdoor cabinet for railway applications
nVent SCHROFF’s new modular outdoor cabinet is a reliable solution to ensure the dependable functioning of electronics in outdoor environments, specifically tested and certified for outdoor and trackside railway applications. With coolants and digitalization on track for success
OELCHECK presents the OELCHECK-App and the coolant analysis at the InnoTrans 2018. With the App, operators and service employees enter the sample data directly at the machine. With a QR-Code attached to the sampling point, the App recognizes the machine with the corresponding data. Only changes in the sample data, e.g. time of use of the lubricant, need to be completed in the App. Errors that have occurred so far when manually filling out the paper information form or when transferring illegible handwritten data are now things of the past. With the coolant analysis which was introduced last year, OELCHECK makes statements about the coolant condition, water quality, impurities, degradation products and additives. From the test results, OELCHECK draws conclusions about the condition of the machine and the coolant.
Variable gauge OGI axles for freight
In order to solve the problem of breaks of gauge between the different railway networks in rail freight, the consortium composed by Azvi, Tria and OGI, as well as Adif, has developed an automatic variable gauge system made up of variable gauge axles and a gauge changeover facility. The variable gauge axle approval process set forth by the Spanish ETH standard is verified and certificated by Bureau Veritas, the entity responsible for publishing the evaluation report. Currently, the OGI axles have successfully completed laboratory tests and on-track tests as well as 100,000 km in phases I and II of the in-service tests set out in the standard, and they will obtain provisional technical approval for commercial operation.
Simulator enables cooperation between driver and conductor
The system can also be used to train the driver or conductor separately. Full HD monitors show live action video of the front, rear, and sides of the train, synchronised with the simulated travel speed. A realistic sound system replicates the acoustics of the train with the driving operation and conditions. All meters, lights, and indicators operate accurately. The effect of slopes and curves on train speed are simulated realistically. The status of the simulated train can be changed to reflect different scenarios from the instructor’s stand. The instructor’s stand can launch preset scenarios and events during the simulation in real-time. Simulated radio handsets and intercoms allow communication between all four parties (driver, conductor, instructors).
Connecting the site with the office
Vespucci technology automatically merges all data, documents, equipment and multimedia contents as well as all linked objects relating to a linear infrastructure into a super technical Google street view environment. All personnel involved can explore it from the office and share their documents directly: everybody has a global view of the infrastructure. Study plans become interactive: the entire linear project can be viewed simply by clicking on it. Vespucci logs all information, so the evolution of the infrastructure can be traced, before/during/after situations for the respective work phases can be compared. Vespucci also runs on a Windows Pad, so new information can be added on site via a simple, intuitive, efficient interface.

A digital twin of the track
The digital transformation poses great challenges to the railway. When it comes to track management of tomorrow, a multi-dimensional approach will be required, combining design data, measuring results, data models and data on costs and time. A virtual world, i.e. a consistent, database-assisted track model, will reflect all relevant elements. This digital twin of the track provides a high-quality data basis for planning according to BIM. To ensure the comprehensive recording of the track infrastructure (track, overhead line, track surroundings) was developed new tools, such as the EM100VT. VT stands for virtual track. The vehicle will be used as a development platform, providing an important basis for digital product development. In the summer of 2018, the systematic recording and digitisation of the track will become a reality.

Vacuum suction machine for complex, intricate work
The Railvac™ is a self-propelled suction machine with short set up time, for surgical excavation and high performance giving the possibility for excavation with short possession times. The driverless suction machine has a power of 500 kW diesel engines connected to 3-lobe vacuum pumps with unique suction power of up to 950 mbar of vacuum. Via a 10 inch hose the material will be transported by airflow of 90 m/s into a 25 m³ material container. The special formula of the new base coat system REM AQUA Basecoat 101 from the Austrian manufacturer Rembrandtin Lack GmbH enables time savings of 50% during application. After 30 minutes of drying (at 45 °C), the base coat can be overcoated with the clear coat. The 2K-PU varnish is water-based and therefore particularly environmentally friendly. The product is available in all RAL and NCS colours in the mixing system. Small quantities can be mixed and delivered quickly. EN ISO 45545-compliant lightweight structural panel for ICE 3
GFR sandwich panels produced with the SAERTEX LEO® system are extremely versatile. For example, Deutsche Bahn relies on floor panels from SMT-Forst as part of its ongoing refurbishment of the ICE 3 fleet. The combination of 3D-reinforced structural core materials and the fire-retardant LEO® system enables a wide range of installation possibilities depending on the project. The desired properties in terms of low installation height, lowest weight or maximum mechanical strength are obtained with minimum use of materials. AMS200 Rail welding machines
The AMS200 enables the distressing and the flash butt welding process to be carried out in one operation, without an additional pulling device. This welding machine features the necessary force to achieve the required calculated dilatation. The loss of material due to the welding process is taken into account in the calculation. The machine offers a long travel in order to allow a reliable distressing even at low temperatures. The AMS200 has an integrated deburring unit independent from the moveable machine side which deburrs directly after welding while the rail ends remain ﬁrmly clamped. The distressing force acts in the neutral zone of the rail, which increases the weld quality and protects the machine from unwanted stress. Free space around the rail foot avoids collision with sleepers and track fasteners and minimizes the need to raise the rail ends.
Front evacuation system
The company Schliess- und Sicherungssysteme GmbH (S&S) will exhibit a joint project with Siemens AG and S&S at InnoTrans 2018 – the front evacuation system is a world premiere in this version. It is used by Siemens in the “Desiro City Class 717” for the evacuation of passengers in the single-bore tunnels on the Moorgate route. The system spans a height difference of 1310 mm and the opening height above rail level is also adjustable. Actuation occurs via emergency release, afterwards the steps move out within 12 seconds. To fold the evacuation system back, one person has to actuate a mobile hand-operated winch.
Quick charging of electric buses and reliable shaft grounding for rail vehicles

SEFAC designs and manufactures columns with fixed or retractable claws for lifting trams, underground rail cars, locomotives and trains. Lifting installations can consist of up to 36 jacks. The unit nominal lifting capacity is defined according to customer needs (currently up to 37.5 tons per column). It is possible to lift a train with an iso-levelling tolerance of +/- 5 mm for an installation of 400 m. This precision is possible because of the technology used, namely the “screw/nut” technology which is extremely accurate, intrinsically safe and irreversible.

New vehicle control units family
The new CPU 94x family of vehicle control units is revolutionizing the control architecture of modern rail vehicles. For the first time it is possible to bundle several independent, user-programmable controllers (PLCs) virtually in one device. Different applications such as vehicle control, TCMS, traction, brake and diagnostics run simultaneously, independently and without feedback on a single-certified vehicle control unit. Safety-relevant and non-safety-relevant applications are clearly separated from each other. The new concept reduces recurring equipment costs, reduces engineering, commissioning and vehicle approval costs and also delivers great performance. They have been developed according to the high standards for safety & cyber security and thus offers optimum protection for people and systems.
Elastic rubber pads to reduce rail noise
Elastic rubber pads are placed between the rail foot and the concrete sleeper. The main purpose of an elastic rail pad besides protecting the railway infrastructure is electrical insulation. A known drawback of elastic rail pads is the increased rail noise induced by the vibrations of the rolling stock. To overcome this problem, Semperit with the support of partner companies invested years of development in creating a new generation of elastic, low-noise rail pads. The new design is the result of a new rubber compound together with a sophisticated pad design and is already being introduced onto the market. Noise measurements on several tracks have shown that this new type of pad is able to reduce rail noise by half (-3 decibels). So instead of (more expensive) measures railway organisations now have another option for reducing railway noise especially in urban areas.Silent pad
CleanGrip: Antislip tape with R11 antislip-factor
SFS has developed CleanGrip, a PVC-free and customisable anti-slip covering with slip resistance R11 according to DIN 51130 and fire classification HL3. We have chosen to forgo abrasive grinding particles for the product. This enables the slip resistance of R11 instead of the common R13. In addition, the surface absorbs less dirt and it is easier to clean. Colour and design adjustments can also be implemented without any problems. Further advantages compared to conventional anti-slip coverings are: robustness, dimensional and heat stability as well as environmental friendly, solvent-free manufacturing process.

“Velaro Novo”, a new vehicle concept for high-speed trains
Siemens presents a new vehicle concept for high-speed trains. The “Velaro Novo” sets new standards in efficiency and sustainability while still ensuring outstanding passenger comfort. The new platform has been developed for high-speed service from 250 up to 360 km/h all over the world. At 300 km/h, the new high-speed train uses as much as 30 percent less energy than earlier Velaro models, which translates to an average reduction of 1,375 tons of CO2 per year. Thanks to its lightweight construction, the train’s weight was reduced by 15 percent. At the same time, available space for passengers was increased by ten percent. Siemens will present the concept for the first time at an international trade fair in the form of a digital production at InnoTrans 2018.
Measuring device for low and audio frequency track circuits
A new device entered the market of maintaining low and audio frequency track circuits: It is the Selective Multimeter SICO 2061 KS made by the German company Signal Concept GmbH. Used for acceptance tests and inspection it can be applied on track circuits of the world’s leading manufacturers. The meter for selective current and voltage measurement determines small signals even in places tending to be affected by high noise levels or external signals (e.g. due to neighboring track circuits). The flexible current transducer measures contactlessly track circuit currents to locate mainly electrical failures. The sturdy tester with the wide temperature range comes with many additional functions: Thus, the measuring results can be stored automatically in a scheduled period in defined intervals. Afterwards, the results are conveniently transferred to a PC with the USB data cable.
EN 15085 online register for welding companies in rail vehicle construction
The EN 15085 online register (www.en15085.net) is a central quality management tool for national safety authorities, bodies issuing manufacturer certifications, the railway vehicle industry and railway companies involved in certifying welding companies for railway vehicle construction. The EN 15085 register records all of the certificates held by recognised welding companies that are issued by accredited manufacturer certificate issuers certified by ECWRV (European Committee for Welding of Railway Vehicles). This includes the specific extension according to DIN 27201-6 (maintenance), RIL 826 (superstructure), paragraph 22.214.171.124.23 RID (tanks). The online database also integrates welding consumables approved or certified by Deutsche Bahn.

The MPC Modular Power Connector range from Stäubli Electrical Connectors is used in rail power applications. On rolling stock, where the cables are regularly moved, they need to be clamped where they enter the MPC to prevent damage from repeated flexing. Stäubli has introduced a Dynamic Cable Option DCO that is directly mounted on the MPC to provide this strain relief, saving customers from producing their own devices, which are often complicated, expensive and take up more space. This type of cable stabilisation is needed on all types of rolling stock, including locomotives, electric multiple units, metros and tramways, for inter-carriage and body to motor / bogie connections. The unit can save crucial time when connecting / disconnecting carriages at peak periods, and also speeds up maintenance. The added protection for connectors and cables can also improve maintenance intervals and reduce expenditure on spare parts.
3D silicone printing for complex parts
Sterne has developed SiO-shaping, an additive manufacturing technology which works by depositing filaments using a 100% UV-cured silicon. This 3D silicone printing technology has two aims: The first is to manufacture prototypes. Recovering 100% of strength and elongation properties of the injected final product, customers have a clear idea of the final item. The second is to manufacture “impossible parts”, such as hollow parts, usually impossible to manufacture using other processes. Those hollow parts may be useful for floor cushioning in railway applications for example. The minimum printing layer is 0.1 mm and a large range of Shore A hardnesses are available. These characteristics allow manufacturing with extreme precision and high geometrical complexity.”
Efficient testing of DC high-speed breakers and protection relays

In the event of fire, the new swibox enclosure meets the requirements for EI15 and EI30 and with its innovative fire load insulation it protects the environment from fires that are ignited by electrical systems in the control cabinet. The system meets the high requirements of EN 45545 for safety housings in rail vehicles as well as for applications in tunnels and building construction. The completely newly developed swibox sandwich construction also allows a significant weight saving compared to conventional designs. Safe and secure implementation of the OPC-UA protocol
Security-critical supervision systems are exposed to an increasing number of threats. A component such as Safe & Secure OPC-UA SDK drastically reduces the number of exploitable vulnerabilities during a cyber attack. Systerel implements a secure, open-source OPC-UA toolkit with the following characteristics: EAL4+ security level, high assurance (formal methods), compliant with safety standards (IEC 61508, SIL2), specific design for embedded systems, open-source (released under the Apache license) and a security certification by ANSSI (French National Agency for Computer Security) planned for 2019.

Effective locking of electrical screw connections
In the field of electrical engineering, screws are used to achieve conductive connections. It is essential that a continuous contact pressure between the connected parts is ensured, as loosening leads inevitably to system failure. This technical situation has led teckentrup to develop the NSK E lock washer, which meets the increased requirements for electrical screw connections. Settling effects are offset by the high spring effect. At once, the special smooth underside prevents chip formation. The toothed washer surface also provides a positive-locking effect underneath the screw head / the nut, and prevents the screw connection from unscrewing.
New transportation system for persons and goods
The Terreplane Transit System uses substantially-wingless glider trains/cars traveling along 40 mm diameter ziplines. Terreplane is able to attain performance at 1/5th the cost, 1/5th the time, and 1/5th the energy relative to much transit currently served by cars, trains, and aircraft. Terreplane guideway infrastructure is similar to the towers and cables of gondolas (see image comparison), only Terreplane's transit guideways are relatively straight zipline-type guideways supported by support cables attached to the tops of the towers. Like gondola-type systems, Terreplane's infrastructure is relatively inexpensive, quiet, and easy to route above buildings, rivers, and rough terrain. Unlike gondola systems that are relatively slow and low in capacity, Terreplane vehicles can exceed the speeds of the fastest rail or maglev.
Keyboard pantograph for overhead power collection
Inspired by computer keyboards, the patented product separates the carbon strip on the pan-head into smaller strips to offset the impact from the overhead line. Only the “keys” in contact with the line will be pressed while the remaining “keys” are unaffected. The advantage of this design is to disperse the pressure acted on traditional carbon strips, reducing the pressure of each section by 10-17 %. This increases lifespan of the pantograph while reducing arching and other hazards. The invention also improves the interface between the overhead line and pantographs, increases transmission efficiency, reduces energy consumption and improves service life of the rigid overhead contact rail for urban rail transit.

The LED strip light LS by TSL-ESCHA GmbH with red and green LEDs informs passengers about door opening and closing actions. The risk of being hurt or trapped by a closing door is minimized. Excitation device for traction applications
The TIBS-XD2T-24V is a 24 V excitation device for the excitation of brushless synchronous generators for traction applications. The particularly robust construction of the device ensures a long service life, even under harsh conditions. The excitation device provides a variable excitation current and has been designed for the supply and control of two independent traction converters. The supply of the transducers of the DC-link voltages is also provided by the excitation device. Depending on hardware, the transducers can be measured in the 0-10 V or 0-50 mA ranges. Communication with the central vehicle control is provided by CAN bus. The device also has a variety of generator protection functions, such as diode fault detection, 6x Pt100 temperature measurements and a speed-characteristics controlled excitation current limiter. Further digital inputs and outputs can be provided optionally.
Proven coupling technology for freight trains
The automatic coupler makes freight train operations safer and more efficient. It ensures the automatic, quick and safe coupling of freight wagons. Despite their low weight, the couplers have a robust design. The coupler has been optimized for rail freight traffic, and meets EN 12663-2 requirements for freight wagons. It is therefore perfectly suitable for European freight transport conditions. Its modular design makes the coupler ideal for retrofitting. A UIC interface allows for easy mounting. For the connection to locomotives, Voith supplies mainline-compatible hybrid couplers, which can be used with both automatic couplers and screw couplers.
Versatile MPM compact rail milling machine
Vossloh presents another innovation for smart maintenance: the compact milling machine for special assignments on mainline and light rail sections. Despite its low weight of only 16 t, the new Multi Purpose Milling (MPM) machine achieves a metal removal of up to 2 mm per pass. This is primarily accomplished with the counter-rotating milling process, in which the milling unit rotates against the direction of feed. The wheels with their vulcanized tread ensure the required traction without slipping. This means that more power is available for the milling process resulting in a better cutting process and more accurate metal removal. The contactless scanning of the rail by laser also supports comprehensive, condition-based turnout maintenance.
Multi-sensor switch for high safety requirements
The multi-sensor switch, which is easy and quick to install, has both optical and thermal fire detection and is thus particularly resistant to false alarms. Alarm and fault are each provided separately as potential-free contacts. It is recommended for use where particularly high standards are required, such as in sleeping cars, technical areas, switch cabinets and wet rooms. The multi-sensor switch reacts to rapid temperature rises regardless of the initial temperature, offers more safety through automatic adaptation to fire characteristics for smoke and temperature and has a 360°-visible status display for contamination, alarm and disturbance. Special feature: To protect against false alarms, the innovation uses algorithms with which signals can be verified.

Emission control by plasma technology
Since 2017 Weihe GmbH has been conducting research together with TU Clausthal on a new process for the aftertreatment of soot particles. Previous methods use active or passive filter systems. Soot is reduced by more fuel consumption and high exhaust gas temperatures. The new approach is a physical process that uses a plasma for exhaust gas aftertreatment. Neither the cross-section of the exhaust line decreases, nor is additional fuel needed for the thermal aftertreatment of the exhaust gases. The plasma reactor will be combined with an electrostatic precipitator. Initial trials on real machines are planned for the end of 2018 until the beginning of 2019. First, power ratings up to 500 kW will be covered. Later, engines with 1000 kW are also to be cleaned.
Super-compact high performance Ethernet Train Backbone Node
Westermo presents the Viper-208-T8G-TBN, the Ethernet Train Backbone Node (ETBN) of the future. It conserves all the benefits of its predecessor, the industry's most popular and most proven ETBN, the RFR-212-FB, and adds benefits like full gigabit capacity, extreme compactness, very high routing capacity and full support for the IEC 61375 suite of rolling stock software standards. The Viper-208-T8G-TBN is thus perfectly crafted for dealing with the train backbone of the future and constitutes an important companion to the Viper consist switches and the RT series of wireless LAN devices, which together provide the complete on-board communication infrastructure.
Cable duct systems for a variety of applications
The highest priority must always be given to the safe laying of power and data lines. Wirthwein has developed the new cable duct especially for this purpose. It provides easy, flexible and safe laying of cables. The buried cable duct systems are constructed for a load capacity up to 15 kN according to DIN EN 124-1:2015 / DIN EN 1433 / DIN 19580. Their low weight makes them easy to lay by hand without lifting gear or heavy tools; radii are also possible. The integrated connector system provides a stable, force- and form-fit connection. The lid is fixed with hinges, which allows quick opening and closing when cables are laid and saves time when cables are inserted later. The hinges help to avoid hazards particularly in railway stations due to the air suction of passing trains when the lid is open.
Monitoring, control and communication systems for the rail
Yapı Merkezi İDİS will present five world premieres at InnoTrans. The IDAS interlock system is a PLC based, modular, SIL 4-compliant interlock system with configurable software. It offers an integrated, flexible and scalable solution for different application areas. The TICIDIS ticketing system collects passenger fares and ensures controlled entry to stations. The modular, configurable software allows different kinds of applications such as on main lines and tram lines. SCADA and the integrated alarm system aim to monitor and control critical situations in technical rooms, including S&T equipment along the railway line. The exhibitor’s tunnel radio monitoring and recording system allows instant communication monitoring and recording comprising two FM receivers. Last but not least, the FM re-broadcaster provides users with seamless RDS-compliant FM signal reception in the closed areas, such as tunnels and subway stations.
Prefabricated slab track solution and dual gauge concrete sleeper
On its exhibition booth 129 in hall 26 at InnoTrans 2018, in addition to its current product portfolio the specialist trackwork company YAPIRAY will showcase two new products. The first is the prefabricated slab track solution “RAYTON SLAB TRACK” which was re-designed as “reinforced concrete” by removing the post-tensioning treatment from the previous design. The second is the B70 type dual-gauge concrete sleeper called “B70-DG”. With the “RAYTON SLAB TRACK” product, YAPIRAY aims to bring an easily produced, safer slab track solution to the railway superstructure market, both in metro and high-speed lines. And B70-DG allows transportation of both narrow and standard gauge vehicles on the same track, saving valuable time. Both innovations will have their world premieres at InnoTrans.
Compact high-performance laser for rail measurement
The structured light laser series ZQ1 has been developed for the most demanding measurement applications in the market. Wherever a high output power, exceptional beam performance and industrial-suited design is needed, the ZQ1 series is the right choice. The laser for rail measurement along with its intelligent monitoring functions enables a high stability in performance also in rough environments. It is IP67 rated and shock and vibration proof according to DIN EN 61373:2011-04, cat. 2. The integrated active cooling system keeps the laser diode at a constant temperature. Due to its communication interfaces (RS-232 & I2C) the laser can be integrated efficiently in a sophisticated machine vision setup. The user can easily adjust the right working distance for the application with its manual focus option.
Emission free shunting technology
For trailing loads up to 50 t the battery-driven railcar mover ZAGRO E-MINI was developed. Handily designed, it can easily be transported to the operation site and docked to the vehicle to be moved. Shunting is done with a control unit connected to the drive engine. Preferably for elevated tracks in assembly halls and workshops. Shunting speed is 3 km/h. The new ZAGRO E-MAXI XXL is suitable for trailing loads up to 2000 t. It is battery-driven, powered by 2 x 1000 Ah lead acid batteries and optionally with hybrid drive. Total weight is up to 24 t, shunting speed is 6km/h, solo drive 19 km/h. A unique feature is the all-wheel steering. The modular design allows track gauges of 1000 to 1676 mm, various coupling systems, lead acid to lithium-ion batteries, driver’s cab, wagon brake system and many other things.
Cat two-way excavator: Mobility on rail and road
With a short rear end, the innovative rail wheel drive train and braking system for the rail wheels and the sophisticated but simple to operate control system, the Cat M323F two-way excavator sets new standards in mobility, lifting capacity and safety. Many classic two-way excavators are still equipped with a friction wheel drive. This means that the excavator‘s tyres are pressed onto the rails or roller to transfer the driving and braking forces. The disadvantages: heavy wear on one side of the tyres and often damage to safety elements in the track bed. With its independent hydrostatic rail wheel drive train, the M323F not only guarantees safe propulsion but its high ground clearance also ensures that the safety elements in the track bed are unimpaired during travel.
New ZAplus plastic fan system with fire safety certificate
The fan manufacturer ZIEHL-ABEGG has developed a fan system made of a special plastic for capacitor cooling in roof air conditioning units: it weighs less, is more efficient and yet still meets the fire safety standard DIN EN 45545. Seen over the entire life cycle, the costs are significantly lower compared with conventional fans. Up to now, axial fans fitted to train roofs have always been made of metal for fire safety reasons; the same applied for the mounting. ZIEHL-ABEGG is revolutionising this by using a thermoplastic, fibre composite material. The so-called ZAmid from the fan experts in Künzelsau has been in operational use in countless client applications since 2011. The technology leader is now also incorporating this material into railway technology. The advantage: the weight of the fan is reduced by up to 40 percent. The name of the product: ZAplus.
ZWEIWEG takes over the product range HUBMEISTER Aerial Work Platforms
With effect from June 2018, ZWEIWEG International GmbH & Co. KG has taken over the business unit construction of new aerial work platforms from Blumenbecker Technik GmbH. Thus, ZWEIWEG continues the HUBMEISTER lifting platform tradition. ZWEIWEG already manufactures lifting platforms for the use on rail, mainly, for road/rail vehicles. This product range is now extended by the HUBMEISTER product range, in particular, lifting platforms for municipal equipment vehicles, transporters and trucks. The installation of the aerial work platforms will be carried out at the ZWEIWEG location in Sehnde. The manufacture and prefabrication takes place in a manufacturing facility in Northern Italy which has also been acquired.
